David Fitzsimons to present to Industrial Symbiosis UK technical study visit

International Synergies Limited is hosting a study visit from the BEBKA region in Turkey to provide knowledge support for the development of a regional industrial symbiosis network and management model.

As part of the British Council and the Newton Fund project, a group from the Bursa Eskisehir Bilecik Development Agency (BEBKA) region in Turkey is making a study visit to the Greater Birmingham area to gain industrial symbiosis expertise. Participants will include members of the Development Agency, Directorate of Environment and Urbanization from Bursa, Eskişehir, Bilecik, Anadolu University and many more.

International Synergies Ltd, who have run a successful National Industrial Symbiosis Programme (NISP) model, will host the visit to provide knowledge and support for the development of industrial symbiosis models in the BEBKA region. On days 2 and 3 of the visit the group will be taken to Ricoh, Veolia Four Ashes, European Bioenergy Research Institute, Tyseley Environmental Enterprise District, OGen, Recycled UK and Alutrade.

But on 20th February Oakdene Hollins’ David Fitzsimons will be presenting to the group on the subject of remanufacturing. He will explain how the newly launched European Remanufacturing Council will enable faster growth in remanufacturing in Europe by building a new generation of remanufacturing innovators and advocates.

The Council will liaise with the research community whilst welcoming member companies from the automotive, transport, imaging, and technology sectors. Its work programme aims to increase from 2% to 5% the proportion of manufactured output that achieves an extended life through remanufacturing.

"Our ambition is to make remanufacturing a normal part of a product’s life cycle, but we need to inspire a new, young generation,” says David, who is the Council's Director.
