European Research Funding - in or out?

Our own experience has been: the better the input, the better the output.

Our own experience of applying for and leading European research projects has been mostly positive. Early projects were sometimes chaotic, but over the past several years the management systems have improved and now deserve to be imitated - at least in part.

Our most recent example, which finished in February 2017, relied on funding from Horizon 2020 (grant number 645984). The project was designed to compete with similar work in China and the USA and had a strong business development aspect to it. The British contribution from the University of Strathclyde and the Centre for Remanufacture and Reuse (CRR) was acknowledged by all the other partners to have been valuable... so let’s hope the rumours are right and the UK government wants to negotiate a position allowing UK-based researchers to play a full part in future European research projects.
