3rd Annual End of Life Mattress Report

5 years ago, the National Bed Federation (NBF) commissioned Oakdene Hollins to set up an annual reporting system to be the primary source of recycling data for the UK mattress industry.  The methodology we developed includes surveys of key market players, data analysis from select sources and stakeholder interviews to give a well-rounded view of the market, and a clear situation report.

Between our first 2 reports, mattress recycling increased by 55% in the UK. The latest report, which can be found on the NBF website via the link below, gives the 2019 snapshot and shows the progress being made towards the NBF target of ‘75% mattress diversion from landfill by 2028’. Our recommendations on meeting this target include industry specific ecodesign principles, designing an Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) Scheme and increasing transparency and accountability.
